Hanukkah Gift Guide
For eight days out of the year, Jewish people all over the world put a pause on their everyday lives to celebrate the miracle of their religion. Steep in tradition, Hanukkah is one of the most appropriate times of the year to send someone you love a gift that represents this joyous time of the year.
Origins of HanukkahTotally understanding and grasping the history of Hanukkah and the significance of the Jewish people could take years to truly learn. For centuries, these people have fought for their rights, survival, and religious beliefs.
Hanukkah is just one of the many reasons that the Jewish have to celebrate, but this holiday has definitely become one of the most important to them. This is due to the fact that one of their greatest miracles is being celebrated during this eight day festivity.
Hanukkah marks the day that the Temple was rededicated after the Hellenistic ruler, Antiochus IV Epiphanes, had it desecrated with the slaughtering of a pig on its alter. There was a revolt by the Jewish people during this time which is also marked by the special holiday.
Hanukkah also marks the miracle of the eternal flame for the Jewish people. After the Jewish revolt, there was only enough oil to keep the eternal flame burning for one more day. The problem with this was that it actually takes eight days to prepare and bless the new oil. Miraculously, the candle burned strong for the eight days that it took for this new oil to be made; hence the naming of the festival of lights and the iconic Menorah.
As time has changed, so have the traditions of Hanukkah. One prevalent change is that of giving gifts. At one time, Jewish children used to receive money coins every night of this festive season. With the growth of Christianity and Christmas, though, Jewish children weren't to be left out and started to receive gifts on the eight days, instead. Now it is extremely common for all ages and genders of the Jewish faith to exchange tokens of appreciation on their holiest of days.
Share in the FestivitiesIt is easy to see why sending a thoughtful fruit basket during this week long Jewish tradition is more than appropriate. Whether you are a Jewish person looking for a kosher gift to send someone you love, or you are not Jewish but you want to aid in a friend's celebration, a fruit basket is the perfect gift. With succulent fruits, delectable chocolates, and sparkling ciders, you can create a fruit basket fit for an eight day celebration of family, friends, religion, and delicious dining.
Don't forget to add the words Be'ahava (with love) or Chag Sameach (wishing you a happy holiday) to make that basket extra special. It's the thought that counts when it comes to any gift, so make sure that your jubilant thoughts ring strong when you send out your Hanukkah gift basket.
