The Manly Alternative to Flowers

Tossing a football in the yard, learning to ride your first bike, watching the home team smash one out of the park while trying to steady yourself on his knee; these are all the fond types of memories that many children everywhere have of the male provider in their lives. It seems only natural that there should be at least one day set aside every year to show these trusted men the appreciation and thanks that they deserve for all their years of love and devotion. And with a Father's Day gift basket, you can prove your love and devotion without making the special man in your life feel any less masculine.

The Origins of Father's Day

Celebrated on the third Sunday in June in over 40 countries, Father's Day has become a day of relaxation and pampering for the men that are usually out working hard every single day. Surprisingly enough, the idea of even having a modern Father's Day did not even come about in the United States until July 5, 1908. On that date, the parishioners of a small town in West Virginia first gathered at the Williams Memorial Methodist Episcopal Church South to celebrate the joy of fatherhood after a horrific mine explosion that killed 361 men the year before.

This eventually led to celebrations everywhere, with the residents of Spokane, Washington celebrating the first Father's Day celebration in June on June 19, 1910. Though heavily supported and celebrated every year, Father's Day did not become an officially recognized holiday until President Nixon decided so in 1972. From that moment on, Father's Day became a nationally celebrated holiday that makes the dads of the world proud.

The Perfect Gift for Any Dad

As a child you probably made your father some type of unrecognizable picture in school that made him smile and laugh. Then as you got older, you probably got a little better with your gifts, moving more towards gift certificates and sweatshirts. As we all know, though, we can only buy so many gift certificates and sweatshirts in a lifetime. That is why it's a good idea to switch up your style every once in a while. The best way to do this, especially if your loving father isn't living right downstairs, is to surprise him with a delivery that will satisfy his hunger.

Fruit baskets offer the right combination of sweet and juicy to satisfy even the burliest of men. Whether you choose to send a basket of fruit and cheese, fruit and wine, or nothing but fruit, you can still make your dad feel appreciated with a gift that will keep on giving for days to come. What better way to show the World's Greatest Dad how much you love him than by sending him a treat that is simultaneously healthy and delicious at the same time?

So as the third Sunday in June approaches and you cringe at the thought of buying yet another sweatshirt or gift certificate, just be sweet; just buy sweet. Your father has helped shape you into the person that you are today, so now it's your turn to shape him into a man that will play a special role in your life for many more years. This is just one of the million reasons to send your Dad a basket full of fruit and love that will not only make him smile, but also keep him healthy for many Father's Days to come.
