Ruby Red Apples
Ruby Red Delicious Apples are America's favorite snacking apple. This sweet, crispy, juicy, heart shaped apple varies in color from striped red to solid midnight red and is great in salads.
Ruby Red Apples were introduced to market in 1874 in Peru Iowa. It is the most popular and widely distributed American apple. Ruby Red Delicious stores and ships so well, while retaining its shiny deep-red good looks, that it is sold in every possible state of internal disintegration.
Too often, store bought Reds are little more than cardboard flavored, mealy mush beneath their glamorous skin. Western Red Delicious are elongated in shape, with pronounced "feet"; Eastern-grown Delicious are more round. Red Delicious apples are available year round, starting in September.
