Jonagold is an excellent dessert variety that is much more popular in Europe than America.
It debuted in 1968, a product of the New York State Agricultural Experiment Station. A blend of Jonathan and Golden Delicious apples, Jonagold offers a unique honey-tart flavor, and crispy, juicy nearly yellow flesh. It has a sprightly, juicy flavor like Jonathon and a sweetness and aroma similar to that of Golden Delicious.
With a yellow-green base skin color and a red-orange blush, it is excellent for eating fresh, making pie & salads and is good for sauce. Good-quality Jonagold apples will be firm with smooth and clean skin, and rank as one of the best dessert quality apples.
