This extra sweet yellow apple may have share part of its name with Red Delicious but is not part of the same family. This apple was discovered in1891 in West Virginia on the Mulins family farm. It is believed to be a cross between the Grimes Golden and the Golden Reinette. As a result of its birthplace, its was named the state fruit of West Virginia in 1955.
Due to its extra sweetness, it makes a great choice for salads, pies or sauces. But be careful, its delicate skin makes it easy to bruise so use it quickly.
